How to Perfectly Center & Apply Guest Address Stickers (The Easy Way)

What You’ll Need

  • Your envelopes
  • Guest address stickers
  • A ruler (millimetres are usually easier for precision)
  • A scrap sheet of paper (A4 or Letter size)
  • Masking tape or Washi tape
  • A pencil
  • Optional but recommended: A vinyl squeegee or a sturdy card wrapped in a soft microfibre cloth.
    • Tip: Ensure your cloth is completely smooth without any raised texture or embroidery, as textured fabrics can leave impression lines on the sticker.

Step 1: The Magic Formula

First, we need to find the perfect placement height. The goal is to center the sticker vertically, but you must account for postage stamps first.

Check Your Stamps: Stamps go on the top right corner. Before doing any math, hold your stamp against the envelope. If you have particularly tall vintage stamps or a custom arrangement, you may need to place your address sticker slightly lower than the mathematical center to avoid overcrowding the postage area.

The Centering Calculation: If your stamps fit comfortably, use this formula to find the distance from the bottom of the envelope to the bottom of the sticker:

Example:

  • Envelope (C6 Standard): 114mm high
  • Sticker Height: 38mm high
  • Calculation:

In this example, the bottom edge of your sticker should sit exactly 38mm from the bottom edge of the envelope.

Step 2: Create Your "Application Jig"

Instead of measuring every envelope, you will create a custom guide (a jig) using a sheet of paper.

  1. Fold the Pocket: Take your scrap paper and create a fold to make a "pocket" or indentation where you can slip your envelope in.
  2. Set the Depth: This pocket needs to act as a stopper. The depth of the pocket should match your Placement Height calculation (e.g., 38mm).
  3. Mark the Alignment: With an envelope sitting in the pocket, use your pencil to mark exactly where the right edge of the envelope sits. Then, measure and mark where the right edge of the sticker should start to keep it horizontally centered.
  4. Secure It: Tape this paper guide firmly to your table using masking tape so it doesn't shift.

Step 3: Rapid Application

Now you are ready for the assembly line.

  1. Slide: Slip an envelope into your paper pocket. It will stop at exactly the right height.
  2. Align: Line up the right edge of the envelope with your pencil marks.
  3. Stick: Peel your sticker. Align the sticker's right edge with your sticker guide mark and the bottom edge with the top fold of your paper pocket.
  4. Secure: Press down just one corner of the sticker to anchor it.
  5. Smooth: Using your finger, a squeegee, or your cloth-wrapped card, apply the sticker with a dragging motion, moving little by little. This prevents bubbles and ensures the adhesive bonds smoothly.
  6. Note on Material: Our stickers are transparent matte. This material works beautifully with matte paper textures for a refined look, though keep in mind it does not completely disappear like a printed effect.
